Most classified adverts are valid for one year from the date of initial publication. During 2009, Yellowhorses.com is running a special introductory offer of 3 months free of charge - 15 months for the price of 12. Adverts can of course be renewed at the end of the year if you wish, and we will send you an email reminder a few weeks before renewal is due.

Situations vacant, employment wanted, and horses for sale/wanted adverts are valid for an initial 2-month period, but can then be extended free-of-charge if required until the position is filled, horse is sold, etc. We will ask you to continue to renew these adverts periodically, to ensure that the information on the site remains current.

How long will it take before my advert is published?

We aim to publish all adverts as soon as payment is received. Any calculation of the validity period or expiry date will commence from the date your advert becomes generally available to site visitors.

Can I edit my advert after it is published?

Yes, you can change the content of your advert as many times as you wish, at any time prior to the next renewal date, without any additional charges.

What if I don't see a suitable category for listing my advert?

We will be happy to extend the available category groupings if there is a need. If you can't find the right category to place your advert, please contact us and we'll review your requirements.

Don't forget that the category grouping is only one aspect of this site. Although each advert must be linked to a 'primary' category group, the advanced search facilities will also return your advert under many different criteria. We'll be happy to provide advice on wording or keyword definitions to maximise the exposure of your adverts.

Are there any restrictions on what can be advertised?

Adverts must comply with all relevant legislation, for example a situations vacant must not discriminate against any minority group on grounds of race, religion, age, gender or sexual preference. Adverts should conform to generally accepted standards of decency and must not contain any bad language or other defamatory or derogatory terms. This web site is targeted at the Equestrian community in the United Kingdom, and as such items advertised here must be relevant to this audience. Yellowhorses.com reserves the absolute right to decline or remove any advert that contravenes these guidelines.

Why are pictures and images not supported?

Our primary aim with this site is to provide a fast and efficient search engine for Equestrian services. Although we have seen a huge improvemennt in the availability of broadband services in recent years, not everyone is yet able to benefit from a fast internet connection, and this is especially true for many living in rural areas.

Initially we are not supporting pictures, logos or other images on this site, as these will increase web traffic and data storage requirements, and may also be of variable quality when optimised for the web. This is to improve efficiency and maintain fast response times while helping to keep our costs and prices low. We will continue to review this policy on a regular basis, and may consider adding this capability as a future enhancement, but we will always continue to maintain a 'text only' option for those who prefer it.

Why do we need another advertising web site?

Yellowhorses.com is built using advanced database technology and extensive full-text search capabilities, and is tuned to maximise exposure of business names and keywords to search engines.

The ability to search by any combination of business name (full or partial match), keywords, location, and similar parameters helps our customers to quickly locate the relevant advertisements. We believe you will find this is far more efficient than simply browsing through lists of adverts that have been arranged based on a set of pre-defined categories, as is often the case with purely text-based sites. Even where search facilities are available on other sites, these often have limited capabilities. Performance may be slow, and search results of limited relevance.

For advertisers, an efficient search capability means that your adverts will reach a wider audience and be more efficiently targeted, and if you provide multiple products or services then your exposure will not be limited to just a single category page.

Why does Yellowhorses.com not provide a free advert service?

We aim to provide a better user experience, so we will only publish adverts for customers of Yellowhorses.com on this site. You will not find your advert pages cluttered with sponsored links by Google, annoying popups or other spamming techniques typically associated with 'free' sites that need to generate revenue by other means. Unmoderated free adverts also run the risk of being targeted by spammers, increasing maintenance overheads and potentially becoming a deterrant to site visitors while impacting the relevance or usability of the site.

We use the revenue generated to invest in the promotion and continuing development of Yellowhorses.com, to increase the usefulness of the site for customers, and maximise the audience available to advertisers.

How does Yellowhorses improve search engine exposure?

Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) is a complex subject, for more information you may be interested in this information provided by Google. Here are a few of the techniques we use on Yellowhorses.com to improve search engine visibility and general ease-of-use:

The most important factor in generating visitors to the site is to provide relevant content, namely your advertisements. Yellowhorses.com allows complete freedom for you to define and lay out your advertisements to maximum effect. Relevant key words and other metadata are also employed within the HTML code, to assist search engines in finding relevant matches.

You may come across other web sites that are built using a proprietary software package known as a 'Content Management System (CMS)'. While very flexible, these systems often result in meaningless URLs along the lines of 'www.hardtofind.co.uk/index.php?a=12345&b=987654'. Yellowhorses.com uses human-readable URLs wherever possible. In addition to ease of reference, a meaningful URL is also a key element that can help to attract click-through in Search Engine listings.

And why yellowhorses?

So what's in a name? Well, we like to think yellow is a happy colour. Daffodils nodding in the spring sunshine, fields of golden corn rippling in a summer breeze, ripening fruit dappled with autumn sun shining through yellowing leaves...you get the picture. And there are far too many 'corporate blue' web sites out there.

We'd like a visit to Yellowhorses.com to be a pleasant experience for our customers and advertisers. Use of colour is one very important aspect, but we've also done our best to make sure the site is easily accessible and will scale to different screen resolutions and sizes (try adjusting your text size if you'd be more comfortable with a larger or smaller font size).

If you have any comments, please contact us and we'll do our best to improve things as necessary.
